Burghley

Burghley House
Welcome to Burghley House page. Our house takes its name from the 1st Baron Burghley who was an English statesman and chief advisor to Queen Elizabeth from 1558-1603.
Burghley was born in Bourne, Lincolnshire at his grandfather’s house.

His parents owned the now world famous Burghley House. At the time Burghley House was situated in Northamptonshire but since then the county boundaries have changed and it is now situated in Cambridgeshire, just outside Stamford. You can go and visit Burghley House as each year they have the famous Burghley Horse trials there.
Burghley loved books so it is quite apt that Burghley’s current Head of House is Mrs Ferraz a teacher of English who also loves books. Mrs Ferraz is also responsible for the continuing link with Balodaya English Boarding School in Nepal. Have a look at their website www.bebs.edu.np and see if you can see any familiar faces in their photo album from when their teachers visited Hatton and in return Mrs Ferraz and Mrs Pruvey visited Balodaya English Boarding School in Nepal in 2007.
Burghley was a keen believer in honesty and honour and these are the principles that all the members of Hatton’s Burghley House are encouraged to follow, be honourable and be honest to yourself and your fellow citizens.
It was a huge honour for Burghley House to be the very first winners of the House Cup after the System was launched at Hatton. We hope that this won’t be the last time, however we are also humble in defeat and are just as happy to be last as first, provided all our house have taken part and had fun doing so.
Our current House Captain is Vicky Green. Vicky is studying Physics, Philosophy & Ethics and Sports Studies at A2 and is looking forward to a gap year volunteering for the charity Oasis UK at the end of this academic year. She then hopes to go on to Loughborough University to study Sports Technology. Vicky has been an inspirational captain to the whole house and to her team, including her Head of House. She has worked tirelessly for the house, creating inspirational posters, organising whole school events and inter house events as well as supporting house members when they have been participating.
We have two vice captains, Sam Arksey and Nilam Patel. Sam is a very gregarious young man who has represented the school at basketball, cricket, rugby, football and athletics. Sam is staying on in Sixth form to study sports, which is no surprise when you look at all of the sports that he already participates in. He proved to be a popular vice captain from the very first assembly when he pledged to represent the boys due to the all female line up with him.
Nilam, like Vicky, has worked a great deal behind the scenes, supporting different events, taking part in house assemblies, visiting form groups to do uniform and planner checks etc. Nilam, like Vicky and Sam, has also represented the school at rounders, cricket, athletics, basketball and badminton. She is part of the rounders side that has been undefeated since they began in year 7, which is a remarkable achievement for any team. Nilam is academically talented too and she is going to study Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at A level.
Finally, in Burghley House our ethos is to strive to be as happy as those world famous little blue people from Belgium, the Smurfs.

Proud to be blue, Smurf on Burghley!
