Welcome to the Media Department
Head of Department: Martin Russell
Media Studies is integrated into English lessons at KS3.
Students can select Media Studies as a GCSE option. During the 2 years they will study a range of media texts; looking at how the industry represents different groups of society, how they target different audiences and how they convey meaning. Coursework involves planning and producing a media text - for example a music video - and writing an essay comparing two areas of the media industry. This is finalised in July of year 11 with an examination. Students learn skills such as deconstruction, video editing and desktop publishing, and the course provides a great starting block for further study at A-level.
Coursework = 50% of final grade, undertaken throughout year 10 and the early part of year 11. Examination = 50% of final grade, undertaken in July of year 11.
