Remote Education Provision

At Sir Christopher Hatton Academy, we are committed to ensuring that all students continue to receive a high-quality education when they are unable to attend school in person.

Remote education is used when attendance at the Academy is not possible. This may include individual absence, partial closure, or full school closure. Our approach is designed to be proportionate, depending on the length and nature of the disruption.

When is remote education used?

Remote education may be implemented in the following circumstances:

  • Individual student absence (e.g. long-term illness where appropriate)
  • Partial school closure (e.g. specific year groups)
  • Full school closure (e.g. adverse weather, emergency situations)

Short-term closure (e.g. one-day closure due to weather or site issues)

In the event of a short-term or unexpected closure, the Academy will provide:

  • Work set via our online learning platforms (e.g. Classcharts / Edulink / Sparx)
  • Tasks aligned to the curriculum students would have studied in school
  • Independent learning activities and resources

During short-term closures:

  • There is no expectation of a full live timetable
  • Work will be set as soon as reasonably practicable
  • Students are expected to complete work independently and submit where required

This approach ensures continuity of learning while recognising the practical challenges of very short-notice closures.

Longer-term closure

If a closure extends beyond a short period, the Academy will move to a more structured remote education offer.

This may include:

  • A planned remote learning timetable aligned to the normal school day
  • A combination of:
    • Live online lessons where appropriate
    • Pre-recorded or teacher-led instruction
    • Independent practice and assignments
  • Opportunities for feedback and assessment
  • Ongoing communication between staff, students and parents/carers

Our aim is that students continue to access a broad and balanced curriculum, in line with their usual studies in school.

Accessing remote learning

Students will access remote education through:

  • The Academy’s online learning platforms
  • Email communication where required
  • Additional resources provided by subject teachers

If students experience difficulties accessing online learning, parents/carers should contact the Academy so that support can be provided.

Expectations of students

Students are expected to:

  • Engage with all set work each day
  • Follow their normal timetable where a structured programme is in place
  • Submit work by deadlines set by teachers
  • Maintain appropriate online behaviour in line with Academy expectations

Support for students and families

We recognise that remote education may present challenges for some families. The Academy will provide support for students who have difficulty accessing technology where possible and offer alternative resources where needed.

Safeguarding and wellbeing

Safeguarding remains a priority at all times. During any period of remote education:

  • Staff will monitor engagement and follow up concerns
  • Students are expected to follow all online safety guidance
  • Any safeguarding concerns should be reported to the Academy immediately

Review

This remote education provision will be reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to meet the needs of all students and reflects current guidance.
