Key Stage 3 Curriculum Details:
Year 7 students will start to learn Spanish with three lessons a week focusing on engagement and confidence building.  They learn simple introductions, how to describe themselves and their family, and how to describe their school life. Year 8 will follow a developed programme of study including more grammar and structures based around content such as discussions about food, travel and holidays. They will be expected to learn vocabulary and spellings, complete written Spanish homework and learn spoken work off by heart. They will normally have a piece of homework per week. There are 4 skill areas we concentrate on in MFL, and these are listening, speaking, reading & writing. Students make their GCSE option choices in Year 8.
Key Stage 4 Curriculum Details:
For the KS4 student cohort, there are 4 terminal exams to be taken in the summer of Year 11 in the four linguistic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course has recently been updated to include contemporary topics such as the use of new technologies and social media, and requires students to become increasingly confident and analytical in their use of Spanish structures.
Key Stage 5 Curriculum Details:
We follow the AQA exam board in Spanish. Students have 5 lessons a week in Spanish in Year 12, and 4 lessons a week in Year 13. Both exams consist of a spoken exam, and then a paper which combines the skills of listening, reading & writing.   There is an increasing focus on the use of translation to assess student’s understanding of linguistic structures.
