Dear Parents/Carers

We are writing to you to share our plans for the return of students to the academy following the announcement by Gavin Williamson, the Secretary of State for Education, on 30th December. The details of the announcement can be found at the following link. We are currently planning to implement the guidance as follows:

Schedule

  • Week commencing Monday 4th January
    • All students will be taught remotely via Microsoft Teams from Tuesday 5th January (details of how to access this provision can be found below)
    • Lessons, will take place at students’ normal teaching time and will be delivered by classroom teachers
    • Form time will take place every day and start at 9am for all year groups
    • Year 11 and 13 students will be invited into school for a COVID-19 test during the week beginning 4th January ahead of returning to face-to-face teaching
  • Week commencing Monday 11th January
    • Year 11 and 13 students will return to school for face-to-face teaching from Monday 11th January
    • All other year groups will continue with remote teaching, but will be invited into school for a COVID-19 test
  • Week commencing Monday 18th January
    • All students will be in school as normal for face-to-face teaching on 18th January

Examinations

  • Year 11 mock exams will now take place between 11th and 29th January- the revised timetable will be sent out on Tuesday 5th January.
  • Externally set vocational exams will take place as previously scheduled

Key Workers and Vulnerable Students

  • On-site provision will be made for students of key worker parents or those students who are classed as vulnerable. If you would like your child to access this provision, please complete the form by following this link (if you have already completed this form you do not need to fill it in again)

Mass Testing for Students

  • During the start of the spring term, secondary schools have been asked to focus on the rollout of rapid COVID-19 testing to help find asymptomatic cases and reduce the risk of transmission of the virus. We have started to put in place plans to implement this testing and will communicate these plans with you once they have been finalised
  • These tests are encouraged but are not mandatory
  • We will request parent/carer consent for this testing for all students in Years 7–11; students in Years 12 and 13 can complete their own consent forms

Accessing Remote Lessons

  • Students should log on to their class team using Microsoft Teams at the start of their normal timetabled lesson. This includes form time which will start at 9am.
  • All students have access to Microsoft Teams through their school account. Instructions on how to login to Microsoft Teams can be found by following the Remote learning link by clicking on the ‘red banner’ at the top of the school website (www.hattonacademy.org.uk)
  • This page also has a range of remote learning guides as well as a link to teaching and learning activities for students in years 7–11 if they are unable to join the lessons at their normal teaching time

If you have any questions in relation to the start of the new term please email head@hattonacademy.org.uk. This is an evolving situation with new guidance being issued frequently, and we will continue to keep you updated on any changes to plans.
