Hatton Baccalaureate (HBacc)

HATTON BACCALAUREATE- THE SCHOLARS PROGRAMME

At Sir Christopher Hatton we believe that having good character is essential in the pursuit of excellence. The Scholars Programme of the Hatton Baccalaureate (HBacc) has been designed to help you learn all about character and challenge and inspire you, through a multitude of exciting activities and opportunities, to develop your character education alongside your academic learning.

In year 7 you will learn about what character is, by exploring the 15 Hatton Character Qualities that will help you flourish in society. In year 8 you will explore these character qualities in action looking at noteworthy people and how their character impacted their achievements and legacy. In year 9 you will see how these character qualities are essential in the world of work.

Within your HBacc Scholars Programme Record of Achievement booklet, you will be able to record a wide variety of activities that count towards our five core values of: Excellence, Aspiration, Achievement, Inspiration and Community. Each core value is awarded at four different levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, reflecting the effort level you have given.

You must get your activities signed by your form tutor to earn your HBacc Scholars badges which are awarded at our celebration assemblies throughout the year. These count towards your final grade which you will receive at the HBacc Graduation Ceremony at the end of the HBacc Scholars Programme.

Further Information regarding our character educations and Hatton character qualities can be viewed here.

Graduate Programme

The aim of the HBacc Graduate Programme is for you to become a ‘Flourishing Hatton Leader’. Participation and completion of all required elements will result in you acquiring this accolade, think of it as gaining your HBacc Masters. What do you need to do to become a Flourishing Hatton Leader:

Active Participation in the Form Time Programme:

Every two weeks in form time you will focus on a given Hatton Character Quality. In the first week you will watch and reflect on a carefully selected TED talk which will challenge your thinking and enhance your understanding around that Hatton Character Quality. The next week two students from your form will deliver a short presentation, which they have planned collaboratively,  to the form around that Hatton Character Quality. It could be an event, a story or an example of that Character Quality.

Evidence of Hatton Leadership through the Tracking Sheet:

You will receive a tracking sheet highlighting the opportunities available to you to develop your leadership skills and give back to Hatton and the wider community. To become a Flourishing Hatton Leader you will need to accumulate 100 points and this must include opportunities from each Hatton Value. You will track this with your form tutor at regular intervals throughout the year.

Becoming a Flourishing Hatton Leader is an esteemed achievement. It is evidence of your ongoing commitment to make a positive difference in your community. It will be an excellent addition to future applications to college, Sixth Form or future work opportunities.

These are the Leadership Opportunities that will be available to you throughout year 10. You will need to accumulate a minimum of 100 points covering opportunities from every Hatton Value. You need to share the evidence with your form tutor so that they can keep rack of your points. If there are any opportunities that you are completing outside of school that are not listed here please speak to Miss Barlow, to find out how many points these are worth and which Hatton Value they would come under.
