Media & Film


Key Stage 4 Curriculum Details:

Pupils study the AQA Media Studies GCSE. The course is split between controlled assessment (60%) and a final examination in Year 11 (40%).                                       

Pupils will analyse a range of media texts and engage with concepts such as audience, representation and institution. Pupils will use their knowledge and understanding of the media to plan, create and evaluate their own media texts.

Media Studies is a blend of the creative and the academic. Pupils are expected to produce extended written analysis of media texts as well as using creative media software to produce texts of their own.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum Details:

A level Film Studies                                

Students follow the WJEC course. Film Studies is designed to allow students to investigate film as an art form and an industry. The course is divided into 4 modules which cover a range of film texts from a variety of cultures. Students will study Hollywood, the British film industry and Japanese cinema. The course also requires students to undertake creative projects which highlight their knowledge and understanding of film form.
