Assessment: 1 exam unit and 2 coursework units. No tiers. Unit 1 coursework = 30%, unit 2 coursework = 30% and unit 3 exam = 40%.

Key Stage 5

Applied Science BTEC
Exam Board: EDEXCEL Applied Science – Extended certificate click here
Assessment: Unit 1 (25%) – External examination – 3 papers covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics taken in May of Yr12. Unit 8 (17%) – Coursework – completed between January and July of Yr13. Unit 3 (33%) – External examination – 1 paper based on a practical examination taken in January of Yr13. Unit 2 (25%) – Coursework – completed between January and May of Yr13.

Assessment: 3 papers / no tiers / no coursework but practical endorsement = separate qualification / papers 1 and 2 = 35% each and paper 3 = 30%

Assessment: 3 papers / all same tier / no coursework / also compulsory 12 practicals for separate practical endorsement certificate / weighting is paper 1 = 37%, paper 2 = 37%, paper 3 = 26%.

Assessment: Unit 1 and 2 (exam) – 1 paper each no tiers. Unit 5 and 14 (coursework). Weighting: unit 1 = 25%, unit 2 = 33%, unit 5 = 25% and unit 14 = 16%.

Physics A Level

Assessment: There are three 2 hour examination papers taken at the end of the course worth paper 1 34%, paper 2 34% and paper 3 32%. There are no tiers. There is no coursework, however there is a practical endorsement which is awarded as a separate qualification.
